The calm, sedate rolling currents of the north-east Pacific Ocean
have changed. The boat pitches and rolls more as waves coming from the
southeast now meet those coming from the southwest, and occasionally the ship shudders
when they impact. Doing my yoga ‘tree pose’ is next to impossible and we feel
like we’ve had one to many gins as we walk about the corridors. The “comfort
bags” (euphemism for ‘sick bags’) have quietly been placed by the elevators and
there seems to be less people about. The intensity of movement is even more
evident in bed, when the boat making its way through the sea adjusts to the
conflicting motions, and we feel cradled and rocked side to side as well as
front to back. Thank goodness we are both good on the water and see this new
adjustment to – what – land proximity? as lovely and affirming. It was too flat
before – now we really feel we are on an ocean voyage!
Here's hoping Jenny and Beazy won't become queasy...
